First of all: Lester Polfuss, RIP.
What an incredible man and inventor – the world is a lot poorer from today on… we’d need one million Les Pauls (the man), instead we’ve lost the only one we had.
By coincidence Nik and I were talking just yesterday about the upcoming “59-09″ Orca, a “50th anniversary” tribute to that icon that is represented by the 1959 Les Paul guitar. So it is only fitting and proper that the guitar shall be dedicated to Lester Polfuss, or Lester, or Les Paul, as you prefer.
It will be the last of the three Nik Huber “50s tribute” guitars, the first having been the 57-07, followed of course by the 58-08 and now by the 59-09.
It will be a one piece limited edition #1/1 – no others will be built, period. Both Nik and I believe that this is the only way to respect all the fine players, collectors and Huber fans out there.
The instrument will be delivered by november-december…time flies, so keep yourself updated by following the in-progress report on these pages!
Specs:
- “historically correct” lightweight south american mahogany back and neck (plain, not curly like on the 2 previous guitars)
- a real eastern maple top, from Nik’s oldest stash of wood (pics soon). According to Nik, this wood has been sitting around in his woodpile for “at least” 5 years, so God only knows who old it is
- a real dark chocolate brown brazilian rosewood fretboard, decorated with Nik’s special silver bordered trap inlays (MOP of course) and with a nice 5 th fret special inlay, also outlined in silver
- fretboard binding made of curly maple … a very exquisite touch
- black curly maple faceplate w/ fake natural maple “binding”
- “thin skin” nitro finish, for a more vintage appearance and feel
- aged parts (bridge, Kluson tuners, pickup covers)
- handmade Haeussel “59″ pickups made to order and serialized for this guitar
The finished guitar will be available later this year (november-december 2009).
Uncle GroOve is accepting reservations on a first come first served basis.
The price is fixed at Eur 6’000, including air mail shipment to your destination. Except Switzerland and Italy, for all other destination the guitar will ship directly from Nik Huber Guitars, Rodgau, Germany.
